Thermal baths & spas in Murcia

To completely unwind

Fancy a day of relaxation under the Spanish sun? In the region of Murcia, you will find a surprising number of places where you can completely relax – from natural hot springs and mud baths to luxurious spas and wellness hotels. In this blog, we share our favorite spots to recharge, relax and give yourself some self-care. Because admit it: that’s okay every now and then, right?

1 Balneario de Archena

Murcia’s most famous thermal spa

If you are in the Murcia area, Balneario de Archena should be on your list. Nestled in a green valley along the Segura River, this historic spa town is truly a wellness enthusiast’s paradise – and you can take that “historic” quite literally here. The first inhabitants to use these hot springs were Iberian tribes in the 5th century BC. The Romans later built real baths on them, and from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, the baths were even owned by the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Anyone who steps into the water here today is literally bathing in the same spring that has been attracting people for more than 2,500 years.

  • Natural hot water baths with healing water up to 52°C
  • Large outdoor pools, relaxation areas and thermal caves
  • Choose from a wide range of treatments: massages, facials, mud baths…
  • You can also stay overnight in one of the spa hotels

2 Spa by Thalasia

saltwater therapy on the coast of San Pedro del Pinatar

Located near the salt flats of San Pedro, this spa offers thalassotherapy: wellness with pure seawater from the Mediterranean Sea. Good for your skin, your muscles and your mood.

  • Saltwater pools, jet streams and mist showers
  • Treatments with marine algae & mud
  • Saunas, hammam, relaxation rooms… Everything for a deep reset

3 The mud baths of San Pedro del Pinatar

100% natural & completely free

Don’t feel like a wellness resort? Then the mud baths of San Pedro are a wonderful alternative. These natural mud pools are located on the edge of the salt lakes and are free to enter. The mud itself is not so well-known for nothing: its mineral composition has a natural anti-inflammatory effect, and is also used by professional thalassotherapy centers in the region for skin and joint treatments.

  • Rub yourself with warm mud, let it dry in the sun and rinse off in the lagoon
  • Good for your skin, joints and blood circulation
  • Fun to do together with the family – Noah thought it was quite funny

Tip: bring old swimwear, the mud sometimes leaves traces.

4 Pozas termales de Baños de Fortuna

Hot springs under the palm trees

In the interior of Murcia, between the mountains, you will find the charming spa town of Fortuna. Here you can bathe in outdoor thermal water, surrounded by palm trees and nature.

  • Outdoor pools with natural mineral water
  • Basic facilities but lovely atmosphere
  • Budget-friendly and authentic

5 Balneario de Mula

quieter, local and charming

Looking for something a little quieter than Archena or Fortuna? Then the thermal bath of Mula is a must. The spa town is small, charming and often visited by locals.

  • Small-scale spa with hot springs
  • Mineral-rich water for relaxation and recovery
  • Nice day trip if you also visit Caravaca or the hinterland

Extra tip: free relaxation spots in nature

In addition to the spas, there are also places in Murcia where you can just relax in nature for free:

  • Mud baths San Pedro del Pinatar (see above)
  • Clear water & tranquility on the beach of Calblanque – no wellness, but the effect is the same
  • Hiking in the salt flats of San Pedro or in Sierra Espuña – for those who prefer to be active in relaxation

Whether you’re looking for a luxurious spa day, a budget-friendly relaxation moment or just want to float with your feet in warm water: Murcia is the place to relax. Don’t forget your snorkeling mask when you head for the sea, and your mud-proof bikini when you explore the pools of San Pedro.
