Calblanque: the golden secret of Murcia

Some places you secretly just want to keep to yourself. But let’s be honest: Calblanque is so special that we have to share this natural pearl. A place where you feel like you’ve disappeared from the radar for a while – between golden beaches, clear blue water and breathtaking hiking trails.

No beach chairs, beach bars or overcrowded parking lots. Here everything revolves around peace, nature and simplicity. The beaches of Calblanque are soft golden, wide and enchantingly beautiful, with impressive rock formations and a clear sea that invites you to stay.

Be sure to bring your snorkel mask – the water is so clear that you can spot dozens of fish. In the meantime, put your phone in a waterproof bag, with this clear water you still want to keep it at hand. Noah loves it here: hours of fun guaranteed.

In winter, Calblanque is one of the most beautiful places to watch the sun set over the sea. That golden glow over the mountains and the water is magical. In summer, the sun disappears behind the mountain landscape, but in winter it sinks straight into the sea – and that makes it just that little bit more special. We always grab our action cam here, you want to capture this.

Calblanque is a dream for hiking enthusiasts. You can sometimes make a whole trip here without meeting anyone – that feeling of endless nature is wonderful.

Our favorite hikes:

• Cala Reona – Calblanque: An accessible and beautiful coastal walk, perfect to do with children.
• Cabezo de la Fuente Circular Trail: our personal favorite. E and varied route with spectacular views. Follow the arrows from the Visitor Centre for the least intensive climb.
• Monte de las Cenizas Trail: a little more challenging, but the views are well worth the climb.

The walks along the salt flats and lagoons are still on our wish list – they seem great for bird watching and discovering another piece of Murcia’s nature. By the way, we also saw a lot of mountain bikers on the trails: for sporty souls, that must be blissful. Put on sturdy walking shoes , the paths are rocky and uneven.

Access to Calblanque is deliberately restricted, and you notice this especially in high season. The regional government of Murcia imposes this system to reduce the pressure of private vehicles and protect the habitats, species and landscapes in the park – no unnecessary bureaucracy, therefore, but a conscious choice to keep this place as pure as it is today.

Outside the high season, simply drive your car to the official entrance of the natural park, where you can park nearby.

During the high season, things are different. The full access regulation runs from around Easter to mid-October, with a complete ban on motorized traffic between the beginning of July and the end of August between 8 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. In the rest of the spring-autumn period, access can also be restricted as soon as the car parks are full. During this period, you park on the outskirts and take the shuttle bus to the beach:

• Shuttle buses run approximately every 30 minutes.
• You can find the timetable and the possibility to buy tickets online on the official site.

Apart from the season, one fixed rule applies all year round: between 8:30 pm and 8 am, no vehicles are allowed in the beach area anyway. Good to know if you are considering going before sunrise.

For us, Calblanque is more than a nature park. It is a place where you really feel how beautiful and pure the world can be. A magical place to make memories together. Go there, walk, swim, snorkel, marvel, and enjoy.
