Shopping in Murcia city

Murcia city is not a shopping destination with big chains and crowded shopping malls – and that’s exactly why we love it so much. Here you shop in small, quirky shops, hidden between the cobbled streets of the center. These are the addresses that we keep going back to.

We don’t start at a shop, but at the place where the locals do their own shopping: the modernist market building from 1919, with fresh vegetables, olives, cheeses and charcuterie from the Murcian huerta. It may not be a “shop” in the classic sense, but it is the best place to get a taste of what this region really has to offer – and a great starting point for a shopping walk through the center.

A little paradise for those who love spices and tea. You can smell it when you step inside: colorful pots fill the shelves until they almost feel like an art installation. More than 200 types of tea, spices from all corners of the world, and a striking detail: their salt is packed in small eggs, in variations from smoked to truffle. We have already taken something here several times as a gift to take home.

For those who want to take home something truly Murcian: hand-painted ceramics, woven baskets, wood carvings – all made locally. No mass production, but pieces with a story.

Not a shop to buy things, but a mandatory stop: this patisserie is known for the pastel de carne, the typical Murcian meat pie. Just order “uno” and you automatically get the specialty of the house.

A clothing store with a carefully curated selection – pieces that you keep wearing for a long time, instead of fast fashion that disappears after one season.

Admittedly, this is not a local store, but it is too much fun to skip. Original gadgets, home accessories and funny gifts, all at low prices. Perfect for a cheerful souvenir or a little treat for yourself.

To be fair: this is an Argentinian franchise with more than 100 branches throughout Spain, so not a unique local find. But the quality is just right – more than 20 flavors of handmade empanadas, with the truffle variant as a crowd favorite. Ideal as a snack while shopping.
