Are you planning a wonderful holiday to Curaçao? Lucky you! 🌴 This tropical island is a dream place full of color, sun, culture, beaches and adventure. But what do you actually take with you to Curaçao? With temperatures around 30°C all year round, you want to pack as light and practical as possible – without forgetting anything important.

No stress: I made a handy and complete packing list for your trip to Curaçao. Based on my own travels (I even lived there for 7 years!) I know perfectly well what is really indispensable… And what you can leave at home with peace of mind.

🩴 Clothing: light & airy is the message

On Curaçao it is warm and sunny – and that every day. But there is also often a strong trade wind. These items are definitely allowed in your suitcase:

  • 👗 Airy dresses or linen outfits

  • 👕 T-shirts & tops

  • 🩳 Shorts

  • 👙 Swimsuits/bikinis (at least 2!)

  • 🧥 A thin cardigan or kimono for the air conditioning or in the evening

  • 👟 Hiking shoes or sandals with grip (for Shete Boka or Christoffelberg)

  • 🩴 Flip-flops or water shoes

  • 👒 Sun hat or cap

  • 😎 Sunglasses

📌 Pro tip: Opt for breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen. And just leave those heels at home. 😉

🧴 Care & sun protection

The sun on Curaçao is bright. So good lubrication is not an unnecessary luxury! And also consider these essentials:

  • ☀️ Sunscreen SPF 50 (preferably reef friendly!) – If you bring a suitcase, bring it from home. In Curaçao this is a lot more expensive than in Europe!

  • 🦟 Mosquito repellent (with DEET or natural variant)

  • 🧼 Shampoo/soap in bar form (zero waste & compact!)

  • 🧴 After sun of aloe vera gel

  • 🚿 Travel towel (quick drying!)

  • 🧻 Reusable cotton pads & basics

🛍️ Tip: You can of course also buy these items on the island, but it is usually more expensive and with less choice.

📱 Electronics & handy gadgets

Do you want to capture your holiday memories? Or do you also want to do some work from the beach? Then these are handy must-haves:

  • 📱 Smartphone (with waterproof case)

  • 📷 Action cam or camera (e.g. the DJI Osmo or GoPro)

  • 🎧 Earphones or noise canceling headphones

  • 🔌 World plug (Curaçao uses 110V American plugs in several places, but 220V is also well represented in the tourist spots, so check it out)

  • 🔋 Power bank

  • 📚 E-reader (light & handy!)

🎁 Bonus: Don’t forget your Decathlon snorkel mask ! Much cheaper than renting, and you use it every day anyway.

🧘 ♀️ Extras that make you happy

  • 🥤 Reusable water bottle (super handy in the car & when getting out)

  • 📒 Travel diary

  • 🎲 Card game or dice game (for the evening)

  • 📸 Mini tripod or selfie stick

  • 👜 Beach bag or dry bag

🎒 My favorite carry-on luggage for Curaçao

I swear by the 40L backpack from Decathlon, which you can still take with you on many flights just like hand luggage (tested myself at Vueling!) – but don’t load it too full ;-).

📄 Documents & travel info

Make sure you check or prepare this in advance:

  • ✈️ Passport (valid for at least 6 months)

  • 🩺 Travel insurance (e.g. SafetyWing – check our blog)

  • 💳 Bank/credit card (note: some machines refuse Belgian cards)

  • 📱 Offline map (e.g. Maps.me or Google Maps)

  • 🧾 Confirmations of flight, hotel & car rental

✨ Bonus tip: take less with you = more freedom

You will notice: on Curaçao you live outside. You often wear the same thing, need less and the vibe is just relaxed. So pack smart, light and conscious – then you can enjoy your time on the island all the more.
