If you are going on a world trip – as we will soon be doing – good travel insurance is essential. But what do you really need? And how do you do it as cheaply and smartly as possible, especially if you are traveling with a family?

In this blog, I will explain how we have arranged it: a combination of free coverage through our health insurance fund and flexible insurance through SafetyWing. With a super nice extra: our son Noah is completely insured for free! 🙌

And believe me: I have compared numerous insurance policies, with Belgian and international providers, and requested price quotes for families who are going on a long trip. Based on that, I can fully say:

💡 What should travel insurance for a trip around the world definitely cover?

For us, one thing was really important:

👉 Medical costs abroad and repatriation in case of emergencies.

We travel light (only with hand luggage), so we find coverage for luggage loss, cancellations or flight delays less relevant. What does count: when something serious happens, we want to be able to be helped without worries – anywhere in the world.

Please note: this coverage usually applies up to 3 months after departure and not outside Europe without prior application.
So be sure to check your health insurance fund before you leave.

✈️ Step 2: Then switch to SafetyWing
